Does Congress bother to read

They really need to start reading bills before they vote for them. The new cap and tax bill they passed includes a provision that would require you to have an energy audit on your house before you can sell it and retrofit it with energy saving features. Yep, that will really help the housing market.
I could MAYBE see having the audit done and have the seller disclose items that SHOULD be updated to make the home more energy efficient. We are in the market for a house right now and I am looking for things like double pane windows and good doors. I didn't need a government program to know what to look for.
How long is it going to be before we have a Flush-O-Meter on our toilets%%

You don't have to read the bill to know it means bigger government and more power.
If that's all you care about, you don't need to read it.

Obviously you don't understand that this is just TOO important not to act on quickly. Just like the stimulus plan, which has worked unbelievably well.
you are just a "little person" and clearly are not capable of understanding the complexities and genius of American politicians, so just crawl back under your little rock and play good, ok?

(I AM just joking...sad thing is Congress is not)

The state does not have the right to regulate the buying and selling of private property. This is insanity! If someone can barely afford to purchase a home, after this they couldn't. There is no Constitutional authority for the Federal or State governments to do this. This isn't "providing for the Common welfare" or any other part of a sentence the leftists love to warp out of all context. I have given Obama the benefit of the doubt, so far. If this passes, I will start gathering ammo and building a bunker in the basement. This is nothing less than a fascist assault on propery rights, disguised as environmentalism. This MUST be stopped! Come on, even you yellow dogs have got to find this frightening. Or are you the socialists that Rush and Hannity and Savage say you are?

In all seriousness, this cap and trade garbage has me worried big time. I also would love to hear and anyone can honestly support this trash.

well, glad I work for an international oilfield services company. I can at least dream of having a job going forward - probably in a different company. But overall, my husband and I are probably in trouble. We have an older home too (so that will kill us on the energy issue...but we did only buy a home that we could afford which is what we were supposed to do...so we are between a rock and hard place).
But again, this is probably for our own good, and we are just too stupid to understand it. Let the politicians take care of us guys. It will be ok.

I think this provision is going to leave some politicians with egg on their faces. I can see requiring double pane windows and such in all new construction but requiring someone selling a home to have all this stuff done is crazy.

can they read?
The answer to this may be no.
That is why they have Congressional Aides.
The Aides are the people that actually read it. As these Aides are often relatively recent grads of our educational system, it is possible they are only able to read what they want to hear.

Oh, and BTW.
None of this is really anywhere near as important as the fact that Michael Jackson died.
In 40 years (God willing) when I have grandkids, I will tell them how much more important it was to mourn Michael Jackson that care about any of the bills being rushed through right now.

Of course, in 40 years we will probably still be talking about how Michael Jackson wasn't really dead. A la Elvis, the death was faked.
The whole thing was a big conspiracy. He wanted out of those concerts. Congress wants to push this stuff through. Al Franken wins. They fake Michael's death, huge media attention like few others. This distracts the American people and world en masse. The Jon and Kate divorce distracts anyone remaining. Sarah Palin. North Korea.
And FINALLY, I lose my voice after a sudden disk herniation and surgery.
It is all a little bit coincidental, don't you think?

Just because we're paranoid doesn't mean that they really aren't out to get us!

I'm not sure wether to laugh or cry...

Hi there,
Does anyone relate the point of this thread with the profit that the energy companies have made throught out this recession? The oil companies keep incresing their profit and PG&E is not far behind? Does anyone ever question why these companies still have the huge profits, and states like California are in the berge of economic breakdown?

Well I can say that I am in the oilfield business and I assure you we, at least, are not making much money and laying off quite a few people.
Or maybe an answer is this.
Better management.
CEOs actually may be able to manage budgets better than politicians? Because CEOs do answer to their shareholders and will be tossed, whereas politicians have a relatively cushy ride once in office and many of them will never be voted out.

At $70+ a barrel oil producers can't make money? Sorry Ophie, I am having a hard time with that. They may be telling you they aren't making money, but 3 years ago when oil topped $50 a barrel, they were uncapping wells in Tx, Co and Wyoming as fast as they could unplug them. What has changed so much in 3 years that an additional 40% of pure profit is hurting the oil industry? BTW, just heard on the news that ExxonMobile is set to top corporate profits for the 2nd quarter of 09, again. Let's see, prices go up-big oil quadruples their profit. Prices go down-they still make a massive profit. Also, if you extrapolate $150 a bbl = $4.00 gas and now $70 a bbl = $2.69 gas, we are paying FAR more for gas now than at the peak last summer. The equivolent price is almost $6.00 a gallon if the price of oil raised = to the price of gas. Ain't nobody hurting but us stuck with the greediest b@st@rd$ on the planet controlling our energy.
