Does cycling the tank kill off a live sand bed?

Might seem like a silly question but bear with me, I'm new to this saltwater thing...Should I add my Live sand bed during the cycling of my new tank or wait till the cycle is finished so as not to kill all the little critters? Don't they help the cycle along? But how do they survive the cycling? I heard that there was no such thing as a stupid question so there it is...Tx! :) Oh, one more...I can't figure out how to use the Instant graemlins in my posts, anyone help me out?

Albionpo:
The purpose of buying live sand is for the organisms in the tank to help cycle the tank and to keep the ecosystem in check. So, YES, you put the live sand in as soon as you add the water.
To use the Graemlins you just click them.

Thanks Jim,
Just wondering if anyone knows how the organisms in the sand survive the ammonia & nitrite spikes?

Well, unlike fish and inverts, that don't like ammonia, nitrite and nitrates, the sand "critters" LOVE all of the above! That is why we use LS. They eat up all the undesirable byproducts cited above.
