When I started my tank I didn't quarantine my first fish, mostly because there are not other fish in the tank for it to infect if the fish did have a disease. And yes ich would show in the Q-tank, it just doesn't show somtimes but its still there the ich is just going through different stages.

You would not have to q the fish if you are sure you are not going to add any other fish for at least 30 days after you are sure there are no signs of ich. If it did have ich, the parasite takes that long to go through it's different life cycles. In other words if your fish came down with ich, even when it looked better the ich would still be in the tank and could even re-infect your first fish.
