Does your LFS copper their holding tanks?

I have seen one here in Michigan that has signs on their holding tanks that say We Copper All Of Our Tanks.
Would this sway you one way or the other from purchasing fish there? If you did would you use any different procedure of acclimation to your system?

I have seen this done. Most of theses places don't have good husbandry, and maintence. I always experienced that the fish are more suseptable to disease after you put them in a normal tank.

Yes, lfs owner here told me that he does, but I have never seen a store with a sign....that's pretty bold. Unless he is targeting the uneducated and hoping that people read it thinking...."oh, well then this must mean he takes super extra measures to make sure we are buying good fishies"....

I copper dosed my holding tanks. Have to. When your in the business to make a profit, you can't take a chance on a fish dying from a very treatable disease. Besides, 99.9% of all fish get Ich at some point of their lifetime.

But I hope that you at least advised your customers to not put your bag water in their tank...

Of course I did. The reason I started a store was to help people keep their pets alive. That's good business.

Id still buy, just make sure none of their water gets into my tank. But we should do that anyways.
+1 You should do this even if they don't run copper.
I'd rather shop at a LFS that does something to combat disease in their new stock than one that just throws them in their tanks to sell.

If I had to choose between LFS's using copper, or sickly diseased looking fish, I'd take the copper. It's also significantly easier on the fish to adjust to copper/no copper, then having the store try something harebrained like running lower salinity... (not bashing hypo, just any store I've seen try lower salinity, do it retardly at like 1.015, which does nothing but stress the fish)

Almost all online dealers, wholesalers, and many dealers & hobbiests, use copper on almost all new fish. I've used copper and a de-wormer in QT for years with great success. Copper shouldn't be used on a few very copper-sensetive fish (like Flame Angels) or any invert; but at well monitored levels I consider it perfectly safe. I really don't understand the big deal; copper needs to be monitored, but one drop of copper treated water isn't going to kill anything. There is even some copper in Instant Ocean. I also think the idea that silicone sealant holds and releases copper to be silly.

Some do, but they also take the *bag water* from a different tank and don't send the new fish home with copper water. These LFS's net the fish instead of scoop with the clear container.
One way you'll know for sure if the fish you are buying is in a tank with copper... do they have inverts and/or corals in the same tank.

Yeah; I assume everyone knows not to put bag water in your tank; but I have to learn it isn't safe to assume anything.

Not sure I like that idea at all. Being plucked from a holding tank is stressful enough, but to be tossed into the bag, with a completely different system's water without any acclimation, is pretty rough...

True; I was thinking the whole lfs was on the same system when I first read this, But, hey, I'm getting old. If that were the case, copper would be everywhere. This is a terrible practice, IMO.
Assuming no "bag water" is going into the DT; why would anyone care if they had copper in the tank where they bought the fish? I doubt you could find a fish at any lfs that hadn't been treated with copper somewhere along the line.
