Hi, this is not my fish. A friend of mine is having a problem so I told him I would ask on here. Well, his 3" dog face puffer is just beggining with ich. He has a couple of spots and has been rubbing on the rocks. He has a qt to put the puffer in. He wants to know what the best medication is for them because they are sensitive.I suggested hypo, but he seems to be leaning tword a med. He also wants to know if the puffer would eat a cleaner shrimp. He says it is very docile. My guesse was yes, but I realy don't know anything about puffers. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If this fish has been in the display tank with other fish, then all the fish have been exposed. Print out the information on Ich and Hyposalinity for friend, which is located in the FAQ Thread.

Puffers will not tolerate copper. The best form of treatment would be hyposalinity.
A puffer usually will eat a cleaner shrimp. A neon goby would be a much better investment.

Thats what I said. He asked about coppersafe and I said I didn't think so, and I told him about hypo, and he didn't seem to want to go that route. Rid ich? That is safe for weak and sensitive fish. Nobody eats the neon gobies huh? Thanks lion!!!

I don't find Rid Ich to work much at all. If he is going to be close-minded and use meds, use the CopperSafe. It works better. CopperSafe is not as bad as regular copper, as it is more diluted than most other coppers.

ok, sorry to bug you with someone elses problem, but I did promise to try to find out. I will emphasise the hypo again, but I will tell him about the coppersafe. Thanks!!!!!

You're never bugging. Asking questions is always better than not asking questions. :happyfish
