Dogfish Shark Question

I got this from some research...
Common names: dogfish, sand shark
Description: Spiny dogfish are gray to slate brown with a pale or white belly. They can be differentiated from other small sharks by a row of small white dots running along their sides. If these dots are faded or absent, which can happen with older dogfish, a distinctive single spine found in front of each of their two dorsal fins can be used as an additional identifying feature. The bodies of these fish are slender and their heads slope to a blunt snout. In size, adult females can reach lengths of 3 1/2 feet and weigh around 8 pounds, while males are normally smaller in size.
So with that info about size, what size tank would be ok for their health and happiness? 500-1000-3000-5000? Thanks in advance for any EXPERT Shark advice I get.!

From what I've hear, dogfish sharks appear to make good captives. However, they don't seem to be a popular species in the aquarium trade nor is there much information regarding their requirement. Scott Michael doesn't even address them in his book.
I would suspect that they prefer cooler water and have tank requirements similar to those of active shark species. Someone on the board has/had one...???

I was simply looking at them for their size. Are there others of similar size that might be more common in the home aquarium? I dont want to keep one that will get too big and not be happy. That is crule and unacceptable. I am just looking for good 1st HAND ADVICE

Thanks for the info MorayMike!

I know u can catch them in the ocean here in NYC. I cought a few in one day out by the verrazano bridge. Yeah i would think they would def need colder water because the water here isnt that warm.
