i purchased 4 dom dam all the same size and put 2 in each of my 2 tanks. in my larger tank on of the damsels grew to about 2.5 times the size of the other. and chases the smaller one around all day long. is that bad? should i put the smaller one in with the other 2 small damsels?

I had a domino damsal that got larger than a silver dollar, Ike that is. He got so mean that he killed the other damsals in the tank, just in his nature I guess.
damsals,......Well if thats what you want to keep I'll set aside my dislike for them and tell ya straight. Get rid of the large one and exchange him for another if thats your pleasure. Why.. the bigger the meaner. The bluer the meaner. Ah heck their damsals they are just plain mean.

I think it all depends on the damsel........for instance, I have a domino, a zebra, and a blue damsel. The Zebra is the only one with an attitude. I agree with the post above, if its causing problems, take it out. I took the Zebra out and the fish seem to be out more, which obviously is becuase they aren't running for their lives every five minutes.

i love the dominos cause i think their fins are so cute! but i hate their attitudes. i saw when at a large aquarium that was probably around five inches long, they get ugly when they are that big. anyway, got rid of my domino, who was under an inch, because he killed everything in my tank. extremely aggresive fishes.

As you can see, everyone has different experiences.....some have no problems, others have damsels that can't stop going after the other fish. Thats what keeps this hobby interesting!

hello, i'm new here and i figured this is a good spot to start posting. i have 5 tanks from a 40h to a 220.of all of my fish my absolute favorite is my 3 1/2" domino.i purchased him at about 1/2" and he was in my 40h.as he grew he got meaner so i pulled him out and got a lfs to hold him in one of their tanks until i was certain my 220 was cycled and ready.during this time all of the employees got so tired of him biteing them that they called me and told me i had to come and get him and that he's in a bag waiting for me.he know resides in my 65 and is a model citizen.seems like alot of trouble for a damsel, but like i said he's my favorite.this isn't a very good pic, but it's the only one i have right now.

My 4 stripe (before I got rid of him) was very peaceful as was my yellowtail. But on the contrary, my other former damsels, 2 blues and a yellow, were always mean and would bite the fins of my firefish. This really p--- me off!

While on SCUBA in the Carib. damsels of all species will defend their territory almost to exhaustion/death. I believe this 'attitude' or behavior is a procreation instinct. When damsels spawn, the eggs number in the upper hundreds, maybe thousands. In nature, schools of fish will bombard the 'nest' and eat, eat, eat away. The damsels are programed to fight off the attackers, even though the attackers are always MUCH bigger that they.
I have been hovering 5 to 7 feet above a large coral head on SCUBA and have had Sargent Majors attack, and even bite at my hair and arms. It really is astonishing to witness.
So small, so tough.
