Don't hook your ATO upto an endless supply

If you are using an ATO (automatic top-off) system, have a limited supply of freshwater in your reservoir. If your float switch or whatever device you use fails (which is more common that you might think) it's far better to add five gallons of freshwater to your tank and have the pump that adds water run dry than have freshwater being pumped into your tank cotinuously until you notice a problem.
Not saying it'll happen to everyone, and hooking an ATO up to a RO/DI unit may work, it's a risk that I took (unit failed, SG dropped to 1.012).
