Quoting from Aquaria Central -
brackishwater is water which contains more sea salts than freshwater but less than the open sea. Moreover, brackishwater environments are also fluctuating environments. The salinity is variable depending on the tide, the amount of freshwater entering from rivers or as rain, and the rate of evaporation. As a result many brackishwater fishes are tolerant of changes in salinity, and in fact many positively benefit from similar periodic changes in aquaria.
Hope that helps. They have lots of info about Brackish water. :)

Search 10 gallon on the nano forum and you should find a decent amount of tanks with specs.

I have about $100-$150 bucks to spend and I need everything sept tank lol kinda hard I know but if you know of any DIY's tell me I need to cut some corners. I am not planning on getting fish for bout 6months to a year. I am think about 2 white and black Ocr. A sand sifting crab, 2 snail of some sort, Pulsating xenia, Medium star polyp frag, Pearl bubble coral, and hopefully a torch coral, 1 purple spotted mushroom, 3 small frags of bright green button polyps, 1 small toadstool leather, 1 green with pink tip frog spawn. Yeah I know its alot but when they get Big I will put them in my 55 gallon but I want them in a 10 for now.

All I can say is buy it piece by piece and never add up how much you are spending. I have so much money invested in my 7 gallon minibow it is outrageous. Just go slow and buy what you need to start with and you can always upgrade later. Just dont skimp on live rock or lighting. Good Luck. I would start out with a 2 by 36 retro kit or a 96 watt quad by custom sealife. Then put at least 10-15 lbs. of live rock. Make sure you give your tank enough time to cycle. My 2.5 gallon has been cycling for a month. Good Luck take your time and make sure you do alot of research before purchasing...

My 20 tall has about $400 or so in it ... I am setting up a 29 gallon tank - which is used - I got it in trade for xenia. I am using a prism skimmer - which I got for some coral frags and some sand I am using some scratch and dent PC lights on it which I got froma champion of a lighting website for around $55 each. I will use a tetratec with heater (combo for total of $40 on ---- - brand new in box). Sand was $10 for the bag and the LR was either made or will come out of my 20 ....
I am very cheap - a huge tight wad - and the total so far is $185 once you factor in salt. Not to mention I need a new RO filter.
I would say be patient and look for a local website/ message board. That is how I got all my stuff thus far!
Good luck!

I have been very frugal on my 10 gal and still have no reef in my nano reef. Not including lighting (which is my next step) or a protein skimmer (not sure I'm getting one) I have spent:
$150-tank, filter, substrate, fluo. hood, heater, therm, etc.
$25 fish (clown, damsel)
$25 complete test kit
$20 salt mix
$100 lr (10lbs), clean up crew (starfish, and snails)
Like I said, I still need the lighting and reef for my reef tank.
Also get a Brita filter and buy the salt and mix it yourself, I think that will help save money in the long run. And don't skimp on the live rock.
Hope that helps
