One of the lfs's In my city actually call their clowns Nemo's. They have it listed on the tank. I guess it is a selling point for the kids.

Just my 2 cents but I think that it can help people sorta relate with the fish in a way (mostly people who don't have any) and if they relate to the fish I think that they would be more apt to respect the fish and the fishs' environment. And could potentially lead to more responsible reef keeping because they may be more inclined to research the animals if they are considering starting a saltwater aquarium.

I HATE IT, I hate how hollywood put those stupid sterotypes on them and no one takes the time of day to know what they really are. A blue regal tang and a FALSE percula

what stereotype is that? hollywood made a movie and to me the movie seemed to be pretty on topic with how things really work in the reef. no actual mention to how to keep it or have a little piece of the reef in your home.
it is children that made nemo popular and then the parents who are whipped by there children to try a saltwater tank. like someone said before, people relate to the fish as nemo or dori because thats what they know, they are not like us more "politcally correct" gurus of saltwater aquaria. so i dont mind when i have all my friends say is that dori or nemo?

My friends and relatives call my two clowns "Nemo." I can't really blame them for their ignorance, but...my fish are NOT named Nemo. I don't like them being called something that they are not. I don't hold it against them at least. :)

Isn't it funny how many people watched "Finding Nemo" and immediately went to their local fish store to buy one? I mean, didn't they pay attention to the movie? The entire show was about a little fish who was taken from his home in the ocean and put in a tank and was then trying to get back. Even after this "great adventure" of trying to get back to the ocean, the first thing everyone wanted was to go buy one. I guess they didn't pay attention....

I have a degree in Psychology and a background in marketing.
I hate to tell you this but and a FALSE percula is nao known as Nemo and a blue regal tang is now know as Dori. Yes its true, ounce a name becomes part of the common culture it is now the name that applies. If you look at the name FALSE percula is is not knat they are know as in latin. They have another name that is "more correct". FALSE percula is its common name as much as Nemo. Think of them as getting a new common name.
If I ask you to tell me what kinda animal Bruce is or how about Jaws (depending on you age). Yea they are common names for the great white shark.
Secondly, More people comming into the hobbie will be good for you and me. The more people that buy something, what ever it is (a fish, a tank, a power head) the price goes down. Stores carry more stuff for the hobby so you have a better selection. More stores open cuz there are more people that want the goods. This increases compition. You end up with better prducts for less money and more choice.
So be happy abput that little nemo fish. It may just make your hobbie better.

Yea you are right. Keeping fish is kinda crewl. They are wild animals. no matter how many generations are bred in captivity. Is the question here weather we bad captors and kill our Nemo or we are are good captors that keep the poor nemo alive for along time? Liveing in only 12-200 gallons of water instead of the ocean.
FREE WILLIE. Lets just be thankful that noone went out and bought Willie.

To be honest I started my tank because my daughter loved the movie, she is only 2 now. I needed that excuse cause the wifey was against the expense. I always had freshwater and always wanted salt, so the daughter convinced her for me

One more consumer in the hobby. Thank you. I also always wanted saltwater fish. I have had a lot of other animals over the years. The movie did not get me into it but it did make me pick clowns to go into my tank. It also inspires me to oneday have a setup that can accomidate nemos host. It is a very cool relationship.
