Dosers.

I have wanted one for ever but am scared if I get one it will be a pain to setup/use. I want something simple! I have about 250 to spend on one and it needs to have two pumps. I was thinking the aquamedic but it looks like to much for what I am using it for. It is going to be used to dose 2 part liquid for a 75 SPS tank. I dose about 70ml a day and want to spread it out over a few times a day so its not all at once. So I guess my question is how easy is the aquamedic to setup and keep running? And do you have to just test and see how many ml it doses per min to see how long to run it each time?

It's pretty simple.
These like most dosers put forth a metered amount of water over a certain time period... usually in the ml/min range. So if you had a pump that put out 10ml/min, you want to run them for a total of 7 minutes per day. That's really all there is to it. They run using what are more or less clock motors, which are obviously accurate, and the design of the pump prevents any variation in the metered rate.
Of course, if you just buy the doser and not the controller, then I'd use nothing less than a digital timer. Any mechanical one is not going to be accurate enough.

Here is a link to my set-up. I did have an issue with overdosing....which I falsely accused the dosing pumps of malfunctioning. ( because I could never be wrong
,at least thats what I thought ) Anyway...I use 2 part solution also, and the problem I had was the ALK portion did not get mixed completely in the water and some settleted to the bottom of the jug,so as the level got lower it was more potent. I have since corrected my mistake and these are working perfectly again.
