DoubleHelix UV

Does anyone have any experience with the Double Helix UV? I am thinking of replacing my older Emperor Aquatics primarily for the bulb cost .

I was planning on getting one six months ago and did a post on it. That UV got bashed in my post so bad... They said it was a real piece of %$%$...

I have personal experience with a 9-watt Double-Helix on a 90gal FOWLR running at max recommended flow rate. I can tell you this, that thing ABSOLUTELY reduces algae growth. The algae that does grow is very thin and hardly noticeable, and only needs light cleaning every 3-4 weeks. I have been nothing but impressed with it. Perhaps someone who has had a bad experience(if there are any here) can post something about it so we can see if there are any real problems with them. HTH

does anyone know what a uv removes from a reef tank that makes most reefers stay away from them?

Slick, not sure if that was rhetorical or not. It kills anything planktonic, without which a reef has no food (except products of photosynthesis of course).
