Down draft skimmer and pump size

I know what I want to ask but dont lknow how to ask it so please bear with me. If you have a down draft skimmer with lets say a pump rated for 1200 gph on it and then you put a pump rated for 1800 gph will it be more efficient. I guess what I am trying to say is "can you put a bigger pump on a skimmer to make it better or at some point will the pump size not matter any more?

a over pumped skimmer,is a over pumped skimmer.
the thing will be dumping water on your floor insted of foam in your cup

if the skimmer is rated 1200 gph i would stick to that! there is a reason that they put a rating on it! just like 03 said....
