downgrading 37g to 20g long

I need to re-do my 37g for many reasons and I need to get everything out of it soon. I have a 20g long ready for the transfer of everything, I just want to make sure I'm setting it up correctly. I have a Millenium 1000, Prizm skimmer, two Penguin powerheads, a 550 and 660 or something along those lines (can't remember exactly) and I will need to buy a new heater. I also will be using the same lighting, a 24" 130w PC (65w actinic, 65w 10,000k). I'm going to just buy another bag of live sand and then sift out some of the sand in my 37g to go w/the new sand. I'm using all the water from the 37g, and the smaller rocks. I just have 2 clowns and 2 shrimp and then hermits and snails so I'll have to sift through everything for the snails when I get all the rocks out. Should I just use the 550 powerhead and put it in a corner of the tank, and which way should it face? Sorry this is all kind of jumbled together but I'm so pumped to get this all up and running so I can have a nice tank again. I know that whatever I do for the transfer, it's all going to have to happen at the same time because I can't leave my 37g half empty with everything still in it. Any suggestions on how to make the process run smoothly and quickly will be much appreciated, although I hope I have everything pretty well planned. :) Thanks.

but the fish in bags.. while you move the rest of the things in the tank
alond with all other living things.. but sepreate bags
... if you can... i'd use the same sand ..
for the power heads i'd prob use both .. either point at each other on opposing ends or on the bak hitting the front..

I only used maybe 10-15 pounds of new sand and it's on teh bottom. i'm going to sift out my 37g sand once i get the rocks out and put as much as I can get out of it into the 20g. And yeah, I can put the fish and everything else in bags. I'll just have to take the rocks out first so I can catch everything :p
