my downspout from my fuge to my tank makes too much noise and causes too much air bubbles as well as splashing. any ideas as to how i can either slow down the water flow? would extending the downspout pipe work as far as reducing the amount of air bubbles?

Is the end currently underwater or above? If its under, and the design allows it, try rotating it one direction or the other so the spout is at an angle to the water surface, the end of it just beneath the surface, if not VERY slightly partially above. That would give the air time to escape before being shoved into the display as bubbles.
If the design doesn't allow it to rotate you could either cut it shorter and attach a 45 degree bend with the end as above, or just cut the end off at a 45 degree angle, with a little more than half the angle being under water. A pic or drawing would help greatly.
