dragon wrasse question

I purchased a 4 inch Dragon wrasse yesterday for 55 gallon. Last night he was doing very well. Today I can't find him...I assume that he is buried in the substrate. However, my substrate is crushed coral and now after reading some old posts, I realize that he might need sand. What do you guys think? I have about 3 inches of crushed coral, do I need to add some sand to one side of the tank? And oh yeah, should I search the susbtrate for him now or just wait and see if he comes out on his own? Thanks a lot ! -David

He will come out later, I have had one for the last year and you could set your clock by him. He gets up about 2:00 in the afternoon everyday and goes to bed at 10:00 at nite. Mine also builts a make shift nest where he lays. He buts all his shells and rocks where he is at. Hope this helps

I had a canary wrasse (yellow coris wrasse) who, after first being added, dove for the substrate only to emerge nonchalantly three days later looking for her dinner. :)
cheers...

That makes me feel better because he is still buried. But what about the substrate? Is the crushed coral ok? Thanks for the help

Hi David,
I don't know about the crushed coral, perhaps someone else can advise. I use argonite (granule size 1- 1.7 mm).
Good luck...

Thanks for the advice everyone. I may end up adding some sand in one side of my tank but I will wait and see how it goes. Thanks a lot !!
