drain line problems.

Well I am at a complete loss here. The drain is SOO loud without using a durso or hofer. I tried the durso and did not like it. I could not get it dialed in, the flushing sound was rediculous, and the water level fluctuated to the point of where it would have overflowed. I just tried hofer gurgle buster. And no matter how I adjust it, if there is any air going into the drain from the vinyl tubing, the water level just keeps rising and rising. I dont have pictures right now, because I really dont have time to take any. But my drain is about 5 inches from the top on the back of the tank. about 8 inches from the left of the tank (all estimating). With either of the setups I tried, I dont have any kind of surface skimmer put in place yet, but I planned on DIYing one up after I found a drain system that I liked. Any suggestions?
edit: oh yeah, my drain is 1"pvc, the return line from the pump is the same as the drain, and the return pump is a quiet one 2200, I am between 3-4 feet from the pump to the tank, with 2 elbows. So I can only be between 493 and 455 GPH.

Sorry was an idiot didn't see PVC size at first.... What size bulkhead? Have you tried building the Durso with 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" PVC? Maybe it's not enough to handle your flow???

The bulkheads are 1" slip, I dont know what the ID of the bulkhead is, but it fits 1" pvc...which I was under the impression that with no assistance from syphoning or backpressure would handle 600gph....
My pump should not be reaching that GPH, but maybe because I used the the 1" pvc instead of the half inch hose it is. The pump instructions say to use the largest diameter return hose possible to maximize flow. It came with a screw on adapter for half inch tubing or pvc, but the threading also fit a 1" union peice, which seemed convenient so I used that and just followed it up with 1" pvc.
Am I just wrong to think that 1" pvc should handle 600gph with no syphon? Because if that is correct, then having a durso or hofer with TOO much air should NOT allow my tank to overflow, like it is...unless my pump is too strong.
