DSB in the overflow?

I was cleaning the filter in the overflow of my 90 reef and noticed some sand in the bottom of it that had a couple of spaghetti worms in it and it got me thinking of a couple of things. I was wondering if it would be beneficial to add 6-7 inches of sand in there. I was also wondering how a couple of mangroves would do in there as well. Seems like a great place for them with all that flow and the area receives plenty of light during the day from the halides. Does anyone have any experience with either of these or any opinions?:notsure:

Its been my experience with hang on over flows as well as with built in types that anything in them that could cause a blockage....will eventually do so! For that reason alone I prefer to keep mine as clear of debris and gunk as possible.

I hadn't thought about that. I have a sponge over my drain but I guess that could get blocked with sand and cause a lot of headaches. Thanks
