So I have been keeping SW tanks for 15 yrs and I still did a whooper of a stupid move afew weeks ago. I always take my sun coral out of the tank and set him into a bowl of food with some water from the tank. One day i had some left over fish food (scallops) mixed with tank water, in the fridge, so I decided to feed it to my sun coral. So took it out of the tank, and dunked him right into 40 degree water
I was in a hurry and didn't even notice the water was cold, I did wonder why it didn't open to feed like it usually did
. After 20 mins in this ice cold water i returned to the tank and about half of the polops died. I still had no idea why until the next day when i went to fed him again and realized what i had done the day before
. At least half of the polops are still alive and doing really well. I just can't believe i did such a STUPID thing

OUCH! well, we all have moments like that, One time I was trying to remove a rather large cluster of bubble algae from my sump I knocked the intake guard off the powerhead to my skimmer...... and promptly broke the cluster loose and sent it through the powerhead.........

yeah, right at the outflow of my skimmer three weeks later I had a field of it a nice even layer about 8" wide on the side of the sump. I went and got some emerald crabs and threw them in my display to try and dodge the bullet it worked and it didnt populate my DT. I scraped the field of bubbles off with a razor (after shutting off my skimmer.) and have been fine since get an occasional piece once in a while but no super explosion

Funny, i have been lucky, never had any algae issues in either of my tanks. Never saw bubble algae in real life till I bought a piece of coral with 2 of them on it. luckily i knew to gently remove them. I have always had emerald crabs, so might be why. Even hair algae has stayed out of my tanks. And my poor fish would be in trouble if not for nori. Makes you wonder why some people have it out of control, while others have very little. Once i bought a worm rock that had alot of different algaes on it and I sorta hoped alittle would spread to give my algae eaters something to graze on. When the lights went off i looked in the tank under moon lights and the rock was literally covered with crabs. Next day,it was picked clean, fish got none of it

So this will make you feel better. My daughter was about 4 or 5 and scared of her own shadow, as well as any ants that may have been crawling in the shadow. I was doing a major tank clean and she wanted to help. She is on a step stool helping me put stuff back in the tank. Then I plugged everything back in. Soon thereafter I noticed my heater on the carpet red hot and melting the carpet. Thinking swiftly I distinctly remember thinking, I need to put th heater in the tank to cool it off. Well of course when the glass shattered right in front of my daughters face, literally about a foot away, she started to cry and scream. So I had to pick her up. I now have a screaming child in one hand and a live elecrtrical circuit over a tank of water in the other hand.
I had the reminder of that for about 2 years before we replaced the carpet.

Couple of my corals fell and so I immediately took the top of my aquarium (including mh pendent) and started fixing things. Well 2 minutes later I notice my room was getting cloudier and I started smelling something burning. Well I looked at the floor (carpet) and saw my pendent laying flat. Lifted it up, and now I have a, good 6 inches in diameter circle, burnt carpet.
I'm not blonde but my gf is and she started laughing. She told me, "I guess you don't have to blonde to be stupid."
