i am fairly new to this hobby so bare with me
i have a fish only tank with 2 damsles and 2 clown fish and a few crabs
i know that clowns like anemones but right now im not set up for a reef tank
however over the last week or so ive noticed that my clowns get really close to the hermit crabs actualy rubbing and like laying on them when the crabs get close to the area where the clowns usualy hang out
at first i thought that they were sick but once the crab leaves the area they act normal
could they mistake a hermit crab for an anemone or could they be sick or just plain retarded

LOL that is to funny. I don't have any clowns, well a clown triger. But it sounds like a turf war. Clowns can be like that. It sounds to easy, so if anyone else knows more or has seen this fess up.

the clowns could just be trying to get the hermits out of their territory. My clowns seem to host almost any type of coral I add to the tank. One likes my colt coral, one stays in my toadstool. Depending on what light you have you could try a low light coral and see if the clowns attach to it. There is a chance that if they are tank raised they may not take to corals or anemonies at all.

I run Super actinc on my 70 gal. tank only and have no problems with buble coral , mushrooms, zoos, colts. Lok around but i think the florida condi anenomie ( read up first ) doesnt have to have mh's. I have metal halides in my bigger tank. Anyway good luck.
