Durso Standpipe Experience

I am going to put a durso style drain in my 55 gallon this weekend. I'd like to know your experiences, i am also wondering if the inch and a quarter pipe he recommends will fit. I'm not sure i will have enough room. Has anyone gotten away with this? how quiet? I have the nice toilet sound right now :)

I did it on my 72 Oceanic bowfront. My built-in overflow was able to hold the 1 1/4" pipe with the street-L and the 3/4 inch return.
As far as my experiences go, its great. Its quite, fool proof in a power outage and easily adjustable. I drilled a hole in the top cap and installed an airline valve to regulate air flow (without silicone so its removable to clean). Thats the key to this setup IMO. Once its adjusted its trouble free.
