Hello fellow aquatic friends, I have a Dwarf Zebra Lion in my 55 gallon reef tank. I have had him for about 5 months, he's very active but for some reason it seems like he is fadeing in color.. His first brown stripe is almost completly gone, but it seems to be at its worst in the mornings when I turn on my tank. Any thoughts???

Hi,
I'm not the lionfish expert...I just wanted to welcome you to the site. I'm sure the more knowledgeable will answer your question soon.

does it come back any during the day? Im thinking your PH may drop at night when your lights go out... you may want to put some macro algae in your sump with a light on an opposite schedule than your tank lights... other than that what are you feeding? (please say its NOT just live feeder fish or goldfish)

The color comes back pretty well throughout the day, but in the mornings he gets really pale, iv had problems with the ph being alittle low, i was using the 8.4 buffer but it raised my alkalinity really high, now my hardness is great but my ph is dropping so i bought balance, but i feed my fish frozen brine shrimp and sometimes bloodworms

okay... so my best suggestion would be adding a macro to your sump and using the alternate light pattern will keep your PH constant and negate the need to add buffers which could be causing stress depending....

No kinda the opposite.. your lights above your tank keep you PH at a constant... when you shut them off they dip a bit... try taking your PH before you turn on any lights in the morning... then after about 4 hours of your lights on... you'll see a bit of a difference..
if there is a SIGNIFICANT difference then like I said before add macro and a light on an opposite schedule in your sump....

Is your temp stable?
Did you QT the fish?
What are the lion's tankmates?
Anything new in the tank (critters or equipment)?
