Dyed anemome?

I just lost an anemone this morning, and I'd like to replace it, after I find out why I lost it. I think it might have been dyed, and I'm looking for someone to check my theory. I had it for several months, and it was the coolest looking anemone I've ever seen, and I haven't been able to find anything like it anywhere on the net. The lfs called it a "carnation anemone," which I can find pics of, but mine was BRIGHT yellow on the base, and lighter yellow on the tips. It was small, about 2 inches across, with short tentacles. Is it possible I can't find one that bright because my other one was dyed? I've heard of coral dying, and I know it's really bad for the coral, but I didn't know if people were dying anemones, too. It seemed very healthy at first, but my light crapped out and I had to save some money to buy a new one. New light should come today.

In my experience, if you *think* an anemone or coral is dyed, it may very well be. Often there is just no "depth" to the color, no shading...the animal, without the yellow, would just be white. This is hard to describe but basically the color is too uniform with no nuance or variation. In addition, the color seems "unnatural" and very bright. The typical colors used are yellow and pink and yes, some anemones are dyed.
However, anemones in general are not easy to keep and there are a variety of reasons that they could die. I would suggest a thorough, and honest, review of your tank parameters and equipment and whether you really have a tank that can support an anemone.
