Eclipse 12 or Biocube 12?

there is no biocube 12. there are 8, 14, and 29... but i would def go with the biocube. A 14 is perfect. but hurry im not sure if it has happened yet, but the biocubes are having a 25% price increase.

eclipse can... work, but not really for corals though. You'd have to retrofit lights and yank the biomedia.

our lfs has a sale on nano cubes and aquapods. they're 120 for a 12 gallon and you get 10 lbs of live sand and a portable refractometer for free with either. so i was eyeing that...i'm going to buy a nano protein skimmer (heard different opinions on them, figured i'd give it a try) im also going to buy a sunpod, nano water circulation pump, and deluxe heater. How much LR should i get, and i want to get the black sand...would that effect anything?

Eclipse is horribly underpowered in both filtration and lighting. Also it doesn't give you the options in the back that any of the Cubes (BioCube, NanoCube, Aquapod) do.
I've had both a 29g Eclipse and a 12g Nanocube. The Eclipse was a PIA that I ended up changing out for a mish-mash 30g tank.

I have an Eclipse 12, it has been up for a year now. I really have found it to be a good little system after retro-fitting t5's into the hood and adding a power head to it for better flow. Everything does well in there and I have had no issues since early in its set up. I am not recomending one, though mine has been just fine after some modifications.

I had an eclipse with 36w PC lighting. I didn't really like it, I would have rather had an AquaPod, Biocube, or Nano Cube. They're all pretty nice. Hope you find what you like...

First off you don't need live sand any sand will become live with a little time. Black sand will not effect anything differently, why would it
Search online there has to be a million places that sell black sand

I have no first-hand experience, but I've heard that it can absorb a lot more heat if you have a heavy lighting system.
I have seen the black substrate at several LFS. SWF doesn't carry it that I could find, but its not extremely rare.
