Ecosystem Filter

Venturing into the saltwater world here in the next couple of months, so I went to the marine fish center nearby, and they told me about the new ecosystem filter. I've been researching it, but don't find much as I'd like on the web. So I wonder if any of you have personal experience with the filter? The store that told me about it, said they are now going like hot-cakes, and that they are setting up a 150 gallon setup with one, but won't be ready before I buy my setup. It is the most accomplished store in Michigan, so I trust their word, I would just like more opinions by people with personal experience, if you could.
PS my setup will consist of a reef, but not a huge reef, and be either 90 or 125 gallons.
Thanks,
Digital

i run an ecosystem 60 on a 75gl reef, it is a new setup so opinion is still out, the calupera is growing like a weed and looks good and is taking care of my nitrate problem. i am sceptical about the "no skimmer required" and the flow rate through the system, most say anywhere from 8-12 water changes an hour through the filter and lfs that swears by these systems says "minimum" of 6 but with a 200gph pump even on a 60gl tank the math just isn't working, i do run a fluval 404 with it. the mud and combination of lr seems to be the key and for my money next time i will DIY a sump with seperate refugium with mud and not the whole ecosystem, thought it was a bit pricey. the store that i bought it at recommended it very highly, of course they advised me to use a ugf which i will be removing this weekend.

Hey Digital, where in Michigan is that store. I know of one in this area (Michigan) that has been running for about a 1 1/2 years, they said that they've only did one water change in it and it looks great. Alot of other local pet stores in my area are getting into it as well. I'm getting one made right now as we speak for my 180. The store thats making mine said that he's made a few dozen of them for large tanks and have been doing great. He had a few in the back that he showed me, anyway the one in the store was proof enough for me, the tank looks great, things are growing and fish have NO signs of the Lateral desease that is so common in most aquariums.

just an FYI on the ecosystem i run, going to add a sump system this weekend and hang the ecosystem from that, as for the "no skimmer required", yesterday my surface water was almost crusty and today almost as clear as a mirror :) . i have purchased a skimmer, got a real good deal, and will have as a back up and am already planning for the next tank anyway :)

The store is called aqua nest, in Auburn Hills, they've yet to get their ecosystem setup yet, so I doubt it is the same store. On the other hand, where is your store? I'd like to check it out, and ask them some questions...

I've heard good things about them. But I do know they're quite expenive(not really worth the price IMO). It would be MUCH cheaper to just make your own refugium. They're also kinda small. IMO it would be better to just use an old tank make a refugium out of it than to buy one of those.

The store I'm talking about is kinda small, but has some pretty good deals. Its in Clawson, "Ocean Life" its on 14 mile between Rochester Rd. & Livernois. I've actually go to Aqua Nest every once in awhile, theres also another pet store I like that has a really good selection "Aquatic Discoveries" on 15 mile and Ryan. If you need anymore info feel free to e-mail me at JerryC@Sandycorp.com and I'll be happy to answer any questions.
