Anyone using the skimmerless Ecosystem method for filtration? How's it going? Is it worth making the switch?

The ecosystems method is basically a refugium with fast growing macro algaes.
IMHO this (and ats systems) just use the time honored method of balancing out the tank with plant life.
Which I have found to be very beneficial and results in less maintenance and a more stable system.
In those systems anything that interfers with the macro algaes (and corals for that matter) from receiving the nutrients degrades system performance. including skimmers and water changes.
So ecosystems work. The only question is if it is worth the ecosystems costs. Which is up to the individual hobbiest to decide.

My only filtration is the rocks that the water passes through. The algae is just the stuff that covers the rocks naturally. Don't have to do many water changes, just fill up the water loss evaperation. I guess my other 'filtration' is just hitch hikers that help balance things out. And sometimes run UV unit, and small bags of carbon.
