Well...I have had my eco type filter..no protein skimmer ( I have a seaclone, I didn't trust the stats, but NO sludge, still up and running for 2 mons now) I have had this type filtering for 5 months) It is said that the eco does ALL of the bio breakdowns. Now I have had no amm,nitrites with only .05 nitrates. My alk and ph are in the normal range. (I do suppliment my tank). Now what I say is why does everything have to be difficult. no skimmer...excellent. SWF.com has this filter
