Eel over flows

I have a long 135 gallon tank and have thought of adding an ell to it with my Pork Puffer, Niger Trigger, and Koran Angel. My biggest concern is that from what I have heard about eels is they like to look for holes to get out. If I get an eel am I going to come home to him being in the overfolw box everyday and will I need to seal every little opening on the tank so that he doesnt try to get out?

You don't have to worry about the overflow as much as long as it has water in it. I would seal any cracks an eel could get into. The eel may go down the overflow 1 or 2 times but I think they learn not to do that. Mine went into my in-tank filter and it took me 2 hours to get him out, but htis was in his exploring days in the 1st week I had him. After that I think most eels settle down.

I've had mine for over 4 months now and at first he seemed really anxious and would look for places to get out. But like others have said they usually settle down after the 1st week or so. I havn't had any problems with mine since

yeah... Ive had several eels and Ive only had problems with small SFE trying to get out. Every other eel Ive had never tried to escape.

I hjave about an 18" SFE. He is about 3 months old in my tank.
I have No top on my tank whats so every(55 gallon)
What I found that helps is let the Eel jump out when you are whatching himlet him stay on the floor till he calms down abit.
Carefully pick him up and put him back into your tank. They learn from that and mine has never jumped out since.
I have done this with dragon, green and chainlink Eels.
I know sounds like you are hurting the Eel but it is like a wake up call for the eel and they quickly relieze that they should not do that.
It has always worked for me>
