What is the difference between the Banana Eel and the Goldentail Moray?
I have seen pictures of both and sometimes they look the same, and sometimes totally different.

They are the same. Just slang or common name. It's actually a color morph of a Goldentail Moray. Just like a Naso Tang and a Blond Naso Tang only the actual same eel with color configuration.

Canary Moray
Golden Moray
Brazilain Golden Moray
Golden Tail Moray - Color Morph
All the same...
