eels

Ok, I am getting a 75 gallon reef pretty soon (well, semi reef, I'm not going to have too many corals in there since I'm new). I really would like to get an eel that goes with the tank. I like the SFE the most, but some say it will eat other fish. I also like the Hawaiian Dragon Eel. Which eel would be best for a setup including this?
1 powder blue tang
1 false perc
1 black and white clownfish
1 mandarinfish
3 chromises
1 royal gramma
maybe a dwarf angel of some type
cleanup crew

Any type of eel will eat small fish, so I wouldn't have an eel iwth a mandarin, RG, or percs... Eels need to be kept with fish they cant swallow.

From my experience, Zebra Morays are perfect for reef aquariums, so long as you don't want to keep shrimp, crabs, or small lobsters. I personally have never seen a Zebra attempt to eat a fish. I am currently keeping a 30" zebra in a reef tank with several small fish, such as ocellaris clowns, a royal gramma, and a pygmy angel. This is just one example. Zebra's like shrimp and crabs though, so I would recommend hermits and snails as a cleanup crew. You could try a snow flake eel also, but there is a greater risk because their main food source in the wild is fish. That's my recommendation, best of luck.

yes i also have a zebra moray and it had never eaten a fish in my tank, but my snowflake eel is another story it will kill and eat any fish i put in. even if the fish is to big to eat it just kills it. the only fish that he didnt touch is this one damsel that i wanted terminated. they even sleep in the same cave

Would the Zebra Moray do good in only a 75 gallon? And would buying an eel tank-raised rather than wild-caught reduce the chance of it eating other fish? And, I think one of my favorites is the Hawaiian Dragon eel? Any experience with him? Sorry to have so many questions, just want to be sure.

They are really beautiful eels but they probaly will eat small fish also they are about 1000 dollars but if u have the cash that is probaly the nicest eel out there. Moray mike should be able to help u telling u if they are reef safe he has one

Yes, a Zebra would be fine in a 75. They like to stay in one place most of the time. I'm not sure about the tank-raised issue. As for Hawaiian Dragon eels, they will eat smaller fish, and they usually cost between $700 & $2000. Of course it's your tank, but a Zebra Moray seems a perfect fit for your 75.
