Egg crate / light defuser

Just cut a piece down for my 90, not at all what I was expecting. From what I heard they didnt block much light, there is a noticeable difference with it on the tank. Also its very distracting all the light bouncing off of it around the room.
Any alternatives/better ideas.
I use a Nova extreme 4 bulb fixture.
Thanks all.

What type eggcrate ru using?
I am using the chrome style instead of the milky white style.
I get a glare but it isnt any more than what was comming off of my glass top.
And it lets more light in than my glass top that needed cleaning all the time.
I have an Orbit fixture/1x96w-6700k__1x96w-Actinic-420nm.

Got pictures?

Im using the white kind, as the chome was more than double the price, and I figured being reflective it would be worse. Ill get some pictures in a few.

It was almost 3 times the price at my local LOWES store. But I thought it would put more light into the water.
You could always build a hood around your light.

Very true about the hood, I want to, but lack the skills to make my own ( I think, or atleast to have it look good), and lack the funds to buy one, lol.

If you haven't already try flipping the eggcrate over. Some of it is designed so one side concentrates the light and the other diffuses it. If thats the case the ribs will be tapered. You want the narrow side up

Unfortunetly this stuff is the same no matter what way I put it...... I may go buy some of the chrome reflective kind and see if thats any better.

BONUS FIND!
Just went for a walk through our shop at work, and I found some of the chrome color sheets, look brand new!
Also there the tapered kind, like one side is thicker or biger than the other. Wouldnt I want the thicker side up? If I put the thinner side up wouldnt they act like angled mirrors directing the light back up?
Heres what I mean. This / is how reefraff said. Wouldnt it direct the light back out of the tank.
Wouldnt this work better? /
I didnt meen to call you out or anything reefraff, just doesnt make sense to me? I could be totally wrong, for sure wouldnt be the first time, lol.
Thanks guys!

Why don't you lay it on top of your tank before you cut it and try it out?

Or if that isn't possible, a couple of saw horses.
Shine you light on, it flip it over, and see if you can tell the difference.
Let us know what you find out.

If you have an overflow box and return tube, remember, if you are going to try to flip it over to decide which side looks best, don't cut them out till you decide.

Well, I trimmed it to fit the tank (but not returns or power or anything) and all I can say is boy am I disapointed. I am WAY better off with the white stuff. The chome stuff blocks atleast 25% more light than the white. Ill be pitching the chrome, glad it was free....
