Are these really needed in a 125l. Im not sure how much rock im putting in yet. THe glass is almost 1/2" thick. i didnt really want anything underneath my substrate. Unless its needed.

You don't need to put it under your rock if you don't want to, a lot of people don't even know what it is. However, since you know about it, why not? I used it in my 180g under most of the rock structure, just to be safe, since there is about 250lbs of LR in there and 200lbs of sand.

You dont have to cover the entire tank bottom with it,take little pieces and place them under critical rocks or you can cut 1 inch PVC into short pieces and place them under your rocks. What you really dont want is one point of one rock sticking into your glass with a pile of rock on top of it. This can create a pressure point and cause your glass to crack.
