Eggcrate Canopy Question

I've just fitted an eggcrate lens cover to the top of my tank. With the lights on it gives off a very strong glare if you're standing and looking at the tank.
I'm thinking of spray painting it black to reduce the glare. Would there be any reason that this would not be a good idea?

i dont think so as long as you do it away from the tank and let it dry for a proper amount of time. people spray paint the backs of their tanks black with no negative effects.

I had thhe same problem. I simply cut out the egg crate under the lights other than 4 inches toward the outside edge allowing plenty of room to keep the critters in. It cut down on the glare and actually works great.
