eggcrate help

If i put eggcrate on the top of my tank will it melt if my light is about 4 to 5" above the eggcrate? This is my light below 48" 492W
if you got any pictures of eggcrate on your tank can you post them .

Its made to be next to flourescent lighting which is low heat. metal halides could very easily melt it.
You may have to move your lights up to about 8 above the eggcrate. depending on how hot your lights are. I would try it and observe carefully for the first couple hours.
