Eggcrate?

I have 4 110W VHO's in my canopy, the bulbs are only about 5" from the top of the tank. Can I use eggcrate for a cover or will it get too hot? Also, does anyone know how much (if any) it reduces light intensity?
Thanks!!

The eggcrate should be fine, and there should be no reduction of light. But Why are you thinking of using this???

Thanks Mr. Salty, just added a Scott's Fairy and I'd rather not use a glass top (which I am for now). I also thought about just covering the open area in the back of the canopy instead covering the top of the tank. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Eggcrate will actaully broaden your light if it is installed correctly. If you look carefully, one side of the sections is just a hair wider than the other side. You must put the wider side towards the lights. If it is installed backwards, it will reduce the amount of light transmitted through it, instead of helping the cause...HTH
