I have a 110g, thinking of using an Eheim Professional 3 2080 canister as my filtration, what are your thoughts on this filter? (not using a sump, on this system)

Yes yes yes, I know sumps are 'the way to go', but as you see in my original post I am not going that way, too many risks/issues/situations/customizations. Besides, I have run canisters on ALL my SW tanks and never had any issues (all tests are good). I was hoping someone had some here had used this filter and could give me some personal feedback. The reviews on the web are outstanding for it, but wanted some opinions here. I have 2 small ecco's on a 39 and never had an issue, and the eheim wet/dry's on another without a problem as well. Even had a tank with 2 large HOB and still had no issues.

Westwind77 you asked about canister filter the Eheim and I gave my opinion....Not a fan of any.....you then led into the pitfalls of sumps.......Again you asked for opinion on the canister, and my original reply was???? "Not a fan of any canister filter...Just my .02". You then took the conversation to......."Yes, yes I know sumps are the way to go".....You stated then your going canister because of to many risks.....I then replied with my last post!!!!!! So no you took it to the sump issue!!!!!!

Technically I asked about that specific filter, not canister filters in general. If you had no experience with that specific filter there was no reason to respond, well unless you like to 'hear yourself' type. Thanks anyway.

I will keep this thread 'alive' for others who want info on this filter and how it performs over the long run. I did purchase it & set it up the other night, very simple. Filled the media baskets with SeaChem Matrix (12L). This pump is silent! The reviews I read said it was quiet but even I was impressed. Since the tanks sits as a divider in the living room with the couch against one side it was important to have a system with the least noise as possible. It is very BIG though, luckily I was able to fit it under the custom wall/stand with about 1/2" of clearance on the sides. They say it comes with 14'9" of hose, mine came with 16'3" which made my day as I needed a few more inches than what was said to be supplied. I will be curious to see how the Matrix performs, some people have seen great drops in nitrate levels, other have not see any reduction. However none of the reviews have ever seen an increase in nitrates by switching to Matrix. I have also purchases the Instant Ocean Natural Nitrate Remover as well, but I am not going to use that unless the Matrix can not handle the job, which I will not be able to tell until the filter/system cycles and everything stabilizes. I will post back with updates if something comes up or at longer intervals to let you know if things are still fine with it or not.

Have specific experience with that filter and no don't care for them or any others!!!!
