I'm not sure how to phrase this...
Can someone please suggest what is the best product/way to protect myself/fish/residence when dealing with electrical outlets/grounders for a fish tank?

make sure that anything that plugs in that goes into the water is plugged into a GFCI plug. Also check the amps being drawn by your equpiment to be sure you dont overload the breaker or wiring

The best thing to do is..
Install a dedicated circuit to you're aquarium.
Install an Arc fault circuit breaker in the panel feeding this circuit.
Use the plug in type GFI adaptors on the recetical.
Use surge protector plug strips to plug into the gfi's and plug you're equipment into that.
Plug some of the life supporting equipment into one of the plug strips and at least one powerhead and if you have 2 heaters, one of those in the other. This will keep some things going should a gfi trip.
The debate of a ground probe is also a viable option also. Provided you have an adequaete(sp) ground to ground it to.
