If you don't all remember... I'm the one that killed my damsels, lol. The filter was busted, and I thought they would be okay for a few days.. but, apparently, they weren't. :(
Well, my brother, trying to make it all better, spent about 60 dollars on fish and surprised me with a yellow tang, a hawaiin cleaner wrasse, and a tomato clown. Which was really sweet... except I'm worried I'm going to kill them since I couldnt even keep two damsels alive for a month.. <img src="graemlins//confused2.gif" border="0" alt="[confused2]" />
The tank was cloudy after they died, which I was told because of the overload on the bio bacteria.. but it was all cleared up by the time this happened. I got the new filters up and running, its pretty much all good now.. except I'm very worried about the tang.
I've heard that clowns are very hardy.. and he seems alright. He's constantly hanging around the tang, not leaving his side.
The hawaiin cleaner wrasse is doing good, but the tang is just sitting in the corner.. he seems to be breaving a little fast.. but I'm not sure what's normal with tangs.
The heater is at 80*... it's gotta be replaced.. but I'm trying to bring the tank down to 78*.
The tang seemed more active when I just checked, and he seemed to to not hide as much, when I was away from the tank.
Does the tang need live rock? Because I planned on getting some.. but my wallet is pretty tight right now.
Any special conditions these fish need? Does the tang need seewead, or will the normal marine fish food suffice?
I'm pretty clueless, and a little panicky right now.. sorry for make the post so long..

How big is this tank you are having trouble with? If the tang is breathing heavily, it can mean one of two things - there is ammonia/nitrites in your water or there is a lack of oxygen in the water.
Did you just put these new filters on the tank? If so they probably don't have enough good bacteria on them to keep your water free of ammonia/nitrites. Do you have a test kit? You need to see where these levels are. I would venture to say that this is where your problem lies. Uncycled filters. I would do a large water change and see if that helps your tang out.

that AND:
also you do want to feed the tang, they are big algae eaters and flake just is not good enough for them, IMO, so seaweed or algae wafers may help too

Hello Galina, sorry to hear about your loss. I had tons of problems the first time I entered the hobby and it was due to the fact that I didn't have enough ls and lr for my tank to handle the bio-load. A 30 gallon is hard enough to work with and without the perfect water conditions it is going to be difficult to keep anything delicate alive for very long. I would definitely return or exchange the yellow tang to a lfs asap. They are both delicate and will not be happy in a 29gallon. Then I would start filling the tank with ls and lr. You can do this in weekly increments so it doesn't affect the wrasse and clown and it won't hurt your money situation as bad. Buy 5-10 lbs each week until you achieve what's best for your tank. I currently have over 55lbs in my 29 gallon and it is running perfectly(knock on wood). I had started out with 2 penguin trickle filters and an eheim(with bio-balls) and have sinced removed the pads and bio-balls but kept the filters for water movement and airation. If I'd known more about the lr and ls I wouldn't have even wasted my time with them. Good luck and don't get discouraged.
