Emerald Crab Agressive Towards Fish?

I have two emerald crabs (one probably double the size of the other). The bigger of the two crabs for the past two nights has gone into my baby blue hippo tang's sleeping spot and i believe tried to attack him. The first day after i caught this i saw the tang's dorsal fin was semi-shredded. Now today i saw that the hippo tang is missing half of one of it's side fins. Is this definitely from attacks from this crab? And if so, is this normal? And is the tang stuck like that now or will it heal itself?

Unless you actually witnessed the shredding I wouldn't think so. In my experience the emerald gets the benefit of some attacks or kills when all it is doing is cleaning up the mess. Not saying they won't grab a fin of a fish that gets to close but the emeralds are usually to busy doing their own thing. I would look for another culprit. The hippo will grow back the fin.

you could always feed your emeralds too... if your tank is too clean they have nothing to eat so they'd go after a sleeping fish. one of my emeralds broke skin on my hand as i was trying to move a rock.

Tangs in my experience regenerate torn fins rapidly. Just keep an eye out for any indication of infection

I wouldn't risk it and banish the crabs to the sump or fuge. They really don't do all that much anyway, stick with snails
