Hi,
You may notice my other posts, well I think i may have lost my royal gramma. He wasnt looking very good, not swimming right and tang was pecking him. I have literally this afternoon set a QT up and I really had no choice but to put him in there, and I know this sounds heartless, but if he died in my main tank it would have compounded my problems. My QT hasnt cycled, what can I do for him? Anything?
In my main tank I am about to treat with RX-P because the last thing those fish need right now is to be put into the QT I ahve downstairs. I will also feed them garlic food. They seem okish, but the tang seems to have something on his fins. Is this the best I can do?
Thanks in advance for your hasty responses.
Tim.

Hey, times, its better to stick to one thread, otherwise folks trying to help you have to go looking around at your other threads to recall what is going on.
What is the problem with the other fish? Ich?

Yup sorry beth the other thread was moved from reef forum, feel free to delete this one and continue on the other one!
Well basically last week i thought they had ich on and off, seemed better this week but my royal gramma has just died, doesnt look like ich however. My Yellow Tang now has something similar to fin rot but totally white on his top fin in three places, its not ich i dont think (although i do believe ich is still in the tank).
If you see my other post in reef forums (on cycling a QT) ive decided to cycle my QT over 2 weeks or so with the handy help of a raw shrimp and for now hold back the ich with garlic (ive done a 15% water change today).
The big question though is whether to treat the tank for any parasites (that I believe) are there with Kent's RX-P (see the SWF dry food/medicinal section), which claims to eradicate all parasites in saltwater (including ich) over a 13 day course, and it is reef safe.
What do you think? Feel free to reply in other thread and delete this one :)
Thanks for all your help,
Tim.

I think you best set up a hospital tank. You're dealing with ich and, it looks like some other problems as well.
I would not put any med in a reef tank.
How old is your tank? What are your water readings? How many and what kind of fish? What type of water do you use?

If you want beth we can ignore this thread and use the other one? My params are in my sig (I did a 15% water change last night and havent tested since), the water is not RO but dechlorinated. My tank set up is 9 months old, but i had a major spike due to change in substrate about 2 months ago.

Problem
My QT is no way big enough to hold my LR. So hypo on the main tank must be out of the question, looks like putting the fish in the QT is the only option and doing daily water changes?
OK so these questions pop to mind -
How long in the QT?
Do I treat them with anything?
How big water changes?
Thanks for all your help on this, i know it does feel like an effort but i really do appreciate all of your help.
Tim.

Hi guys,
Seems like you are all tucked away in bed whilst Im in the UK wide awake!
I jsut rang my LFS (not the normal one i use because they dont stock Kent products) and he was really brutal, really unprofessional in his opinion of the other LFS, and he told me it was their dodgy fish they sold me and the only thing to do is flush them down the toilet! I was very very cross at that because I dont care how much they cost they are living things!
Anyway, I managed to get the phone number of Europe's Chief Kent distributor in London who was VERY helpful. Basically, I am going to carry out a 6 day course of RX-P followed by Poly-Ox and he said it has never failed in the UK, and he has all the credentials I need to convince me. So thats the path Im going to take I think (seeing as Refractometers over here are $200!).
Thanks for all of your help,
Tim.

Will do! It sounds very good, all organic no chemicals and its important you use it together with poly-ox apparently which has natural freshwater plant extract.
On the QT side of things, I may as well cycle it properly now there is no rush to use it? I will use a shrimp in there for 2 days to kick start the ammonia, then do i just leave it until al levels go to zero or so? I only have the Fluval 3 Internal with mesh in the middle as filtration, will this do?
Thanks for the help beth,
Tim.
