Somehow soap got in my tank! Luckily no fish were in but there was live rock and the bio filters had gone thru a cycle. Can anything be saved by rinsing it off? Please help soon!

This is what nightmares are made of. How the heck did it happen? Anyway, I have no experience of that sort (thank goodness) but if that happens to me I will not use that rock just yet . I will soak it in freshwater until I am sure every trace of soap is gone. I will be very cautious if I decide to use it again. Better yet, get new ones just to make sure you won't end up with tank full of bubbles. BTW, rinse your tank very well. :D

what...first of all how big is your tank? how much soap got into it?
what EXACTLY is in your tank (LR, LS, etc.)

Well, I've got one of those magnum 350 canister filters, and when I first got it I used the micron filter to clear the tank. Well, I took the micron out and let it soak in a 5 gallon bucket of water. My roommate, unknown to me, took the liberty of cleaning it for me, with joy dishsoap. So, today I go to vacuum the gravel with the magnum, and all of a sudden suds at the top of my tank.
My fish weren't in there due to the fact that they are in a hospital tank right now. I rinsed the liverock and threw it in an eclipse 12 tank with the inverts. I rinsed the tank thoroughly as well as the crushed coral substrate. I think the tank and cc are ok. What about my emperor filters? Can I rinse the biowheels and use them again? This really sucks. I think I need to look for a new roommate. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, concerning the liverock that I rinsed: If the inverts live is that a sign that all the soap was rinsed from the rock? Should I just set up a tank with no fish and run the emperor filters to clean them up? Thanks.
Maybe I should just wait a month til the ick is gone, and go buy that 120 that was going to wait until September.

The Joy bottle should have an 800 number on its label. If I were you I'd call them and find out what they would recommend. They are required to provide you with information of the sort to you on request. They can tell you if there are any chemicals in there to be concerned with. The soap should skim out in a day or two, and the bacteria in the tank should neutralize the surfectants. Id hate for you to throw-out a rock or anything unnecessarily.

both palmolive and dawn are phosphate free and non-ionic as well as non-toxic and biodegradeable. i cant speak for joy, but i think youll be safe after a heafty water change.

I agree with knight, a good or few partial water changes over a weeks time should be enough. I think joy is not toxic and it is not like you dumped it in so dont panic.

I just want to know if this kills ich, if it does you may be on to something here.....could be a real money maker. Greenex, nope, rid-ich, nope, I killed ich with garlic and joy soap.

What about my biowheels? I made up a batch of saltwater and set them in there. should I just set up the tank again, throw some damsels in and see if it's ok? I washed the tank and cc out with scalding hot water. Hopefully tonight I can fill her up and see how she goes.
