Emperor Angel

I was wondering what if any corals I can keep if I get an Emperor Angel fish.Mushrooms? Polyp's? etc. I'm new to this hobbie and this fish is one of the most appealing I saw in books and what got me to start this hobbie. I have a new 125g tank on the way that I,m still trying to decied how I want to set it up. reef or all fish. I do have a 58g now with fish,LV and small coral. any help would help thanks

Unfortunately there are no definates it totally depends on the individual fish. I have kept xenia, mushrooms and some unidentified hard corals on my live rock with mine and he never bothered them. He did however take a liking to a beautiful red/green open brain I had. I took it back before he killed it.

Angels seems to like any coral that is green. I've noticed that. But I'd almost stay away from Emperor angels, unless buying a juvenile. There are a lot better canidates for an angel. Emperors are hit and miss. A lot of them end up dying. I'd stick w/ something more hardy like a Half moon angel. TJ

Thank you all for your response. My LFS told me that they liked to eat brains. Are there any other angels that are simalar in colors like the emporer

my personal favorite is the queen angel. but i cant get one till i get $ once i get outta college. but i dont know how reef safe they are, but man are the beautiful.

From my experience Imperator Angels have been very hit or miss depending on the health of the fish... it all depends on the health when purchased. I have had great success with Blue Angels which are VERY similar in a lot of aspects to the Queen but I have had them survive everything from Marine Velvet to Chilonodella. I have also kept an Asfur Angel in with all types of corals and inverts in a 75 gallon tank with no signs of bad behavior. Consider this though when making your decision. When this fish gets a parasite or disease, which isn't an if, it's a when... in anycase you more than likely will need to treat it with something that will kill your inverts and corals. All my past experience with "so called" Coral/Invert safe medication has been to week to effectively eliminate the disease/parasite. Just ehen you think you'll be smart and get a hospital tank you realize quickly that this fish whatever it may be will know what's up and hide from you forcing you to angrily move everything around in an attmept to catch it.
