emperor angel

I bought a emperor he has yet to eat frozen spurilna brine, mysis or nls pellets but he is grazing the rocks heavily. Seems natural right, but how do i gt him to take to the other food which has been soaked in extreme garlic

how long have you had him? Try and throw an algae sheet in there. Mine took about 3 or 4 days to eat. He started eating the pellets. Now eats anything I put in there.

How long have you had him? How big is he? What size tank? It shouldn't take more than a 2-3 days for an emp. angel to adapt and start eating. They can be picky eaters at first but will gradually accept more food as it gets more comfortable. You can also try adding some algae flakes to his diet and a little garlic to his food. Good luck!

was just curious. it hasn't even been 24 complete hours. intorduced him at 7 last night. he isn't hiding, he grazes the rocks just won't eat. i'll give him time just wanted a jump start on solutions if need be. he is 4-5 inches. adult colors already. just waiting for him to color up fully

The older large Angels are, the harder they are to adapt to captivity.Probably because they have already established a feeding regimen that is tough for us to duplicate. (This is from Bob Fenner). I like the clam idea; this is a great way to get any fussy fish eating. These fish are omnivores, not herbivores and its important that they get meaty items. Frozen Formula II, & I and mysis should be eagerly eaten soon. I think, at this point, he is much more likely to eat fresh or frozen foods than pellets or flakes. Once eating, a healthy Emperor will eat just about anything. While I think garlic is often helpful; IMO & IME, it is not always a help in getting fish to eat, some fish just don't like it at first---they just won't eat anything new. I'll take a lot of heat on this; but I think garlic is much more valuable as a health additive than an appetite enhancer. It does work with some fish, though. There is nothing magical about it, IMO. BTW, there are some great frozen Angel foods (like Hikari Mega-Marine Angel) that contain sponge and I'd sure give it a try.

I'm not surprised hes not eating much as hes only been in the dt less than a day!! Give him time to aclimate to his new environment and he will eat very soon. Going forward you should ask your lfs what a fish has been eating and even ask to feed while you are in the store prior to purchasing.

Thanks for the input. He's a little picky but what he does eat he enjoys. clams frozen krill omega flake and some pellets
