Try e-bay. There's a lady from florida who always sells shells. (say that fast!) As for how many? Just throw a few in there and see if they like them first. Good luck. COOP.

One of my blue-legs got into a really big shell that was too heavy for him to move. He tried and tried, but soon gave up. Back to the gym for him!!!!

My biggest crab is as ugly as can be, but he thinks he is the S**T. My mother in law broght back some shells from Tahiti. Very pretty. Well here comes the big guy. Within 15 min, he moved into the prettiest one there. He went to the LR as high as he could and just sat there. He looked like he thought he was so special. That was like 3 weeks ago and he is still in the same shell.
He is brownish green stripped with a lighter version of the same color. He is cool because he is always up walking around all the time. The only time he slow's down is to molt (Whatever you call it whenn he sheds) Also if he finds a dead fish he is the first one there. LOL

Usually your LFS will have some, just ask. I keep on the average 1.5 - 2 extra shells for every hermit. Varying sizes and types are important.
At a local party supply store, I got a small basket of assorted shells for $2! Go to the hawiian luau section. Ive actually got a scarlet reef hermit living in a beautiful cowrie shell that came in this basket. Check it out!
