End Caps?

well after doing some reserch for VHO's and still looking....im trying to figure out why we need end caps? to just keep salt out?.. i looked at the typcal ends of a noo flo. you buy from lhs.and they are rated to 660v and 600watts... so my thinking is i could use them to light up vho's (48" 110watts)and just replace the ballest and relocate it elsewere..
what do ya'll think? any electicions out there got the answer?...
also.. i can get tar based ballest(i know should be electronic) from lhs for 40.00$ this is where my thinking is going...

The endcaps are different for N.o.'s and V.H.O.'s. So you can't just put a different bulb in. They are cheap so if you're upgrading the light system don't take a couple dollar shortcut here. There is always a way to make it work, but don't.

I've been running my vho's (4 110 watt 48 inch) for 3 years now with a tar ballast and regular connectors from Home Depot. Running strong ! <img src="graemlins//silly.gif" border="0" alt="[silly]" />
