Last night I noticed the end of one of my frogspawn tentacles floating around the tank. Can this just happen sometimes, or does it mean something is really wrong? :help: I love that coral!!!

Alyssia I've had the same problem before, it could be a couple of reasons why its happening. My problem was my calcium level wasnt high enough, once I raised my calcium my frogspawn stopped losing its tenticles. Low calcium levels will cause this to happen to corals. If that is not the case in your tank (low calcium) then it could simply be that the frogspawn doesnt like where it is in your tank. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I think my calcium is okay but I am going to check it shortly. The frogspawn fell right b/4 this happened so I'm wondering if it's tentacle got chopped off.

well whatever the case may be, good luck with it, I love frogspawns as well, mine had 8 heads, now it only has one, took me 7 heads to finally figure out what the problem was.

If it just a tip one a tentical of a polyp, then dont worry about it....they are sticky and can stick to rock or fish or fingers and break off easy with out much/any damage to the polyp...most likely when it fell or when you touched it to replace it back...they get a lot worse treatment in the wild...
If the complete polyp came off the skeleton then that polyp is doomed most likely.

It was just the tip of one tentacle but today I found another one.

Do have clown fish? My clown was doing that to my frog and anemones. It looked like the clowns would nip off a twisted or deflated tentacles.

I do have clowns, but I have never seen them near the frogspawn. They don't even go on that side of the tank.

Yeah, like Johnny said, check your CA. This is also a reason for tentacle dropping and polyps dropping off.
I personally have never had them “throw or drop” a tentacle if they are in a location they are not happy with. Every time its been a deflated polyps.
Maybe check them out at night, I happen to be looking in my tank one night for a "snap maker" when I saw my clown loping off a tentacle that was twisted up.

I'm gonna go check my CA now.

Ca tests okay, but when I got up this morning a bunch of the frogspawn tentacles where attached to a porites rock. I move the rock, but could this be their way of "fighting"?
