I have 20 inch deep 55 gallon tank. i have
2 110 watt vho (1 is 50/50 and one full actinic)
1 175 watt 10,000k MH
my favorite clam is the teardrop maxima, but i want to start with a sqamosa or another more hardy clam and see how that works out
is this enough light for a clam?

as long as the tank is well established, with good live phyto supplementation they should do fine, I think the smaller ones mainly get their energy from phyto and food in the water, whereas the larger ones over 3" generally get most of their energy from the light source

I'd also agree that you may have success with either a squamosa or derasa....just try to locate a healthy one thats over 3"-4"....smaller ones sometimes need to be fed directly to help them along...but larger specimans can thrive off the lighting source alone.

When you pick one out be sure to post a pic or two.....clam eye candy is especially sweet!!

You should be able to kepp any clam you want with your lighting as long as you got it under the metal halide because you only have one halide on a 4' tank.:D
