EOS Digital Rebel XTi Question

I am considering buying a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. I read a review that a consumer made, that states the LCD screen doesn't show the picture. Does anyone have this camera and can tell me if that is true or not?

yes..its a DSLR the back is only for settings and preview the picture you just took. Live view is a point and shoot thing. The only time a DSLR Sensor is exposed is when you press teh button and the shutter is open.
Now the new canon 40D has Live view..just like a P&S but its not really the same thing. yes its a live view of the thing your looking at but its only used with manual focus really.
DSLR are ment to use the eyepiece. taking a picture using the back screen is most likely why 90% P&S shots suck

I concur...to get a good picture you should use the eyepiece. This way you can brace your elbows and hold the camera steady. Trying to hold the camera away from your body will cause your arms to shake (however slightly) and create a less than ideal pic.

from your screen name. Do you use a Sigma or Sigma lens.
I have a Canon 30D but I have a Sigma 70-200 2.8 DG, Sigma 50-500, Sigma 10-20..use to have the Sigma 150mm macro but I sold it. Kicking myself but getting another shortly.
I actually prefer the Sigma EX lens over the CanonL's
had the L's but the EX saves me money and pretty much gives me teh same IQ focus speed and build.

I think there may be a Nikon consumer level DSLR with a live screen (like point & shoots). I don't know how set you are on getting a Canon.

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to stick with the lens that comes with the camera, I cant afford the $449 for the Sigma 17-70. I will have to upgrade later.

Thats a good deal. I will have to go there later. Unfortunately I have to get my camera at Dell, reason being thats where I have an account. Hopefully the lens that the camera isn't that bad.
