I am soon going to set up a new reef tank. I just want to make sure I have all the right equipment. I have a 55 gallon tank, filter, UV Sterillizer, Protein Skimmer, and a Power head current maker. Do I need any other equipment, or is that about it? Also I want about 3 inches of sand in my tank. About how many pounds of live sand do I need? Thanks.

For sand, go with about 75-85 pounds of sand. What type of filter do you have? There are so many variables that come with each type of filter. If you are going reef, you will need a good, high-intensity lighting system as well, such as VHO, MH, or PC. Each comes with it's own benefits and downfalls, but you can weigh the options and decide on what will best suit what you want to do with the tank.
