ESPs are very good heavy metal, heavy rock guitars. maybe one of the BEST metal guitars. if you like metal, go for it (though I don't know that particular model). if you like blues, get a Strat. and if you like the best of all worlds, get a Les Paul.
go on musiciansfriend and look at the reviews for that guitar.

ESP makes very nice guitars. I love the Kirk Hammett signature series! Keep in mind, they do come in different price ranges so you can buy a range of quality.

well because they are on sale at my local music store. 50% off. isn't that great. the one I like is for 1,200 and at 50% off is like 700. I really don't like heavy metal that much.(or hardly at all). but I really like the look of the guitar.

I was just checkin out the EC-1000 on their site and it looks great. I too have always known of ESP as a metal guitar from when Metallica used to play them. However, the bottom line is that it comes down to personal preference. ESP makes a great guitar. So take it down and plug it in. See if you like it.

Please do not buy a guitar because of looks. Play it first. Then buy it if ya like it :p
IMO for metal get a Kelley. I do not know what style you are into though so just try a few out. I just bought one 2 months ago. It is so sweet sounding for metal. It's the KE2 usa made black one on musician's friend.

Aw, come on guys! You have to have the "cool" factor for guitars so looks are a part of it. Take Prince for instance who IMHO is one of the greatest guitar players in world. He has some beautiful guitars. Just kidding about looks of the guitar. Functionality it the most important. You're not stuck playing Metal with an ESP. It's all in the effects you choose to run through. Granted, the pickups if very edgy may be harder to tame, but you can usually select a pickup position that will allow you get the edge out of it. I've never played a quality electric guitar that I could not get a good clean sound.

I agree that no one should buy a guitar because of looks. on the other hand, some guitars (like a BC Rich Warlock, for example) are so ugly that I couldn't buy one no matter how good it sounded.

i have to disagree slightly.
you can have an ugly guitar sound fabulous and a "look at what i got" guitar sound like dung.
personally, i'd rather have the bass that sounds amazing and looks like it caught fire and was put out with wet chains.
of course, you can always replace the pickups, and if its a guitar, maybe even throw active electronics in.
i think "playability" is the most important thing. how easy is it to play?
i dont care about how cool it looks- if the neck is uncomfortable, or its just an 80lb guitar (bass in my case), then im gonna pass.

nah, when I mean looks, I don't mean the paint finish, scratches, etc. when I'm talking about the BC Rich, I'm talking about how it's cut to look like some kind of mideival weapon or something. I wouldn't have one of those.
